Mormonism in the News: Getting It Right | August 14, 2015

“Mormonism in the News: Getting It Right” presents several recent news articles, blog posts or videos that provide accurate and fair reporting on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as well as those that misrepresent the faith to readers.

This edition of “Getting It Right” includes television reports from central Florida and Hungary that detail the Church’s interfaith, charity and missionary programs.

WFTV (Central Florida): Church Partnering With Others to Help End Homelessness

This WFTV report shows how The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is partnering with other organizations in central Florida to bless the lives of people transitioning from homelessness.

Joining with Impact Homelessness and the Faith Committee of the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness, the Church is donating hundreds of move-in kits from a nearby bishops’ storehouse for those transitioning from homelessness at Orange County’s Maxwell Terrace. The kits include food, personal hygiene items, detergent, shampoo and rolls of toilet paper.

Watch the two-minute report at wftv.com.

Duna TV (Hungary): A Day With Mormon Missionaries in Budapest

As part of a series about the diversity of religion, Duna TV in Budapest produced a 12-minute program about Mormon missionaries in Hungary. The production shows viewers an accurate view of what missionaries do — from sharing messages of hope with everyday people on the street to teaching free English classes to preparing for the coming week on their one day off (known among missionaries as preparation day).

Watch the full program (in Hungarian).

Goodly Pearls

"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it." Matthew 13
